Waterfront Museum in Waterford (pen and watercolor)

Mark Peckham, 2009

The Lehigh Valley 79 is seen here at the conclusion of the Tugboat Roundup in Waterford just as several of the visiting tugs were powering-up for their next tows or trips home.

Although tugs and covered barges tied up “on the wall” were once common sights on New York’s waterways, the assemblage of these venerable working boats on a foggy Monday morning seemed unusual and deserving of an impression. I rendered this in pen and watercolor from the Waterford-Peebles Island Bridge early in the morning just before beginning my workday at Peebles Island.
